This course aims to develop students' proficiency in Tamil language and their appreciation of Tamil literature. It covers both language and literary skills, focusing on critical analysis, effective communication, and cultural understanding. The syllabus is structured around different components, including prescribed texts and unseen texts, covering various themes and genres.

Syllabus (9577)

The H2 Tamil Language and Literature syllabus (9577) is designed to assess a range of skills, including comprehension, interpretation, application, analysis, evaluation, and creation. The examination format comprises three papers:

  • Paper 1: Language and Comprehension: This paper focuses on language skills and comprehension abilities, requiring students to analyze and respond to various texts. (350 words, 1 hour 15 minutes, 17.5%)
  • Paper 2: Literary Analysis and Interpretation: This paper assesses students' ability to analyze and interpret literary texts, including poetry, prose, and drama. It includes two sections:
      • Section 'a': Analysis of a given poem (32 marks)
      • Section 'b': Response to an unseen literary text (33 marks)
(1 hour 45 minutes, 32.5%)
  • Paper 3: Essay: This paper requires students to write essays based on prescribed texts and themes. It includes four sections:
      • Section 'a': Essay on prescribed poems (25 marks)
      • Section 'b': Essay on a prescribed literary text (25 marks)
      • Section 'i': Essay on a prescribed film (25 marks)
      • Section 'd': Essay on a self-selected topic related to Tamil language and literature (25 marks)
