Singapore JC Subject List - Urdu (H1)
Urdu (H1) is offered as a Mother Tongue Language (MTL) subject at the H1 level in Singapore Junior Colleges (JC). The curriculum is set by the Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board (SEAB).
Examination Format
The GCE Advanced Level H1 Urdu examination consists of a single, three-hour paper divided into two parts:
- Part 1: Essay (40 marks): Candidates choose one out of five given topics and write an essay of approximately 350 words.
- Part 2: Comprehension and Use of Language (60 marks): This section assesses comprehension and language skills through various question types based on a passage of 350-400 words. It includes:
- Comprehension questions (8 questions, 24%)
- Vocabulary questions (5 questions, 5%)
- Sentence construction with given words (5 questions, 10%)
- Sentence construction with given idioms, proverbs, and word pairs (5 questions, 10%)
- Separation/combination of words (5 questions, 5%)
- Grammar: Cloze test (6 questions, 6%)
