Mathematics (H3)
H3 Mathematics is an advanced elective subject offered at the Junior College (JC) level in Singapore, designed for students with a strong passion and aptitude for mathematics. It aims to provide students with an insight into the practice of a mathematician, equipping them with advanced problem-solving skills, methods of proof, and rigorous mathematical argumentation. It caters to the top 10-15% of the A-Level cohort who demonstrate exceptional interest and ability in mathematics. It is important to note that H3 subjects are not a choice which can be exercised by any JC student.
Curriculum
The H3 Mathematics curriculum delves deeper into mathematical concepts than H2 Mathematics, requiring a greater level of mathematical maturity and critical thinking. It focuses on enabling students to:
- Acquire advanced problem-solving skills and methods of proof by learning useful mathematical results and techniques to solve non-routine problems and prove statements.
- Develop rigor in mathematical argument and precision in the use of mathematical language.
- Hone mathematical skills, specifically learning about mathematical logic, and how to write mathematical proofs.
The first year of examination of the revised H1 Mathematics, H2 Mathematics, and H3 Mathematics syllabuses is 2025. The syllabus for H3 Mathematics can be found online. Past papers can also be found online.
Types of H3 Mathematics
There are two types of H3 Mathematics: MOE H3 and University H3. More information on the specific differences between these two types may require further research. |
