Project Work (Revised)
Project Work (PW) is a compulsory H1 subject in the Singapore-Cambridge GCE Advanced Level curriculum, designed to equip students with essential 21st-century competencies. It emphasizes the practical application of knowledge and skills to real-world issues, fostering critical thinking, inventive problem-solving, effective communication, adaptability, and social responsibility.
Aims
PW aims to cultivate students into:
- Active and discerning inquirers
- Inventive thinkers
- Empathetic and effective communicators
- Adaptable individuals
- Responsible stewards of society
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of PW, students should be able to:
- Demonstrate critical and inventive thinking in information gathering, analysis, evaluation, and idea generation.
- Communicate effectively in both written and oral forms.
- Apply collaborative skills for effective project management.
- Develop values such as respect, responsibility, resilience, integrity, care, and harmony.
- Cultivate dispositions such as intrinsic motivation, a discerning mind, respect for diverse perspectives, humility, commitment to respectful discussion, openness to uncertainty, confidence in generating solutions, and an appreciation of real-world issues.
Assessment
PW assessment evaluates both individual and group performance through two components:
1. Written Component:
- Paper 1a: Project Summary (30%): A group submission documenting the identified real-world problem or opportunity, proposed solutions, and supporting research findings (approximately 1200 words).
- Paper 1b: Individual Reflection (20%): An individual reflection on the project, including analysis, evaluation of group ideas, and personal learning (approximately 400 words).
2. Oral Component:
- Paper 2: Oral Presentation (50%): Each candidate presents a portion of the project, followed by a group Q&A session with assessors. Assessed on individual and group presentation effectiveness, fluency, clarity, audience awareness, and response quality.
Project Structure
Students work in groups of 4-5, choosing a project focused on either:
- (A) A set theme
- (B) An area of interest, potentially drawing inspiration from the Marketplace of Ideas (MOI).
Projects should be completed within 28 weeks (recommended time: 60-75 hours). |
