Tamil B (Syllabus 8614)
This syllabus is designed for students who have a functional competency in Tamil and wish to further develop their communication skills. It focuses on practical language use in a variety of contexts. The syllabus is assessed at the Advanced Level (GCE A-Level).
Aims
- To develop students' ability to understand and respond to spoken and written Tamil.
- To enable students to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms.
- To foster an appreciation of Tamil language and culture.
Assessment Objectives
- Reading: Demonstrate understanding of different text types and apply reading strategies.
- Writing: Communicate effectively in writing for various purposes, using appropriate language and style.
- Listening: Understand spoken Tamil in different contexts and respond appropriately.
- Speaking: Communicate effectively in spoken Tamil, using accurate pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary.
Scheme of Assessment
The Tamil B examination consists of three papers:
- Paper 1: Comprehension and Application (50 marks, 20%) - This paper assesses reading comprehension and application skills. Students are required to answer questions based on given texts.
- Paper 2: Composition (30 marks, 30%) - This paper assesses writing skills. Students are required to write compositions on given topics.
- Paper 3: Oral Examination (35 marks, 35%) - This paper assesses oral communication skills. Students are required to participate in a conversation and deliver a presentation.
