Slovakia Gymnasium - Man and Nature (Science Subjects)
This course introduces students to fundamental concepts in biology, chemistry, and physics. It emphasizes an interdisciplinary approach, encouraging students to explore the interconnectedness of these scientific disciplines. The curriculum includes both theoretical learning and practical laboratory work.
Biology
- First Year: Introduction to the microscopic world and the study of human life. Topics include organisms and their environment, the importance of water for life, life in extreme environments, and the role of animals in human society.
- Second Year: Focus on the cell, plant anatomy, cell division, heredity, and variability.
- Third Year: Human biology is the primary focus.
- Fourth Year: Review and expansion of previous topics, including cells, plant anatomy, cell division, heredity, variability, animal systems, and human genetics.
Chemistry
- First Year: Introduction to systems of substances, atomic and ionic structure, chemical reactions and equations, thermochemistry, reaction rates, and chemical equilibrium.
- Second Year: Study of s, p, and d block elements, aliphatic hydrocarbons, and hydrocarbon derivatives in everyday life.
- Third Year: Further exploration of hydrocarbon derivatives, carbohydrates, and proteins.
- Fourth Year: Review and expansion of previous topics, including systems of substances, atomic and ionic structure, nomenclature of inorganic substances, chemical bonding, chemical equilibrium, protolytic reactions, s-block elements, hydrocarbon derivatives, and biochemical processes. Practical chemistry laboratory work is a key component of the curriculum throughout the four years.
Physics
- First Year: Exploration of force and motion, and energy.
- Second Year: Study of the properties of liquids and gases, electricity, and magnetism.
- Third Year: Focus on periodic motion, electricity, and magnetism.
Additional Information
The Man and Nature curriculum also incorporates elements of environmental education, promoting awareness of environmental issues and sustainable development. Students are encouraged to think critically about human impact on the environment and to explore solutions for environmental protection.
The gymnasium offers specialized modules that allow students to delve deeper into specific areas of interest. These modules include BIO-CHE (Biology and Chemistry), JAZYKY (Languages), and MAT-FYZ-INF (Mathematics, Physics, and Informatics). Each module provides additional instruction and laboratory work in the chosen subjects.
