Slovakia Gymnasium Music Curriculum

Music education in Slovakia is part of the broader Arts and Culture curriculum. In gymnasiums (ISCED 3), which cater to students aged 15-18, Arts and Culture is taught for one 45-minute class per week in the first and second years. The curriculum covers topics such as cultural awareness, cultural identity and traditions, fashion and lifestyle, body culture, cultural experiments, historical and contemporary culture, mass media, electronic media, art analysis and interpretation, and the art market. While music is a component of this curriculum, specific details about the first-year syllabus are not readily available.

In general, Slovakian music education follows a national curriculum, with schools developing their own programs based on the national guidelines. These programs can incorporate regional musical traditions. Textbooks are available for grades 1 through 7. Music education in primary schools (ISCED 1 and 2) focuses on developing musical skills through vocal, instrumental, and music perception activities.
