Slovakia Gymnasium Foreign Language Curriculum

The Slovak gymnasium foreign language curriculum emphasizes language acquisition and communication skills. Students are required to study two foreign languages.

First Foreign Language

The first foreign language receives the most instructional hours (14 over the four-year gymnasium program). Common choices include English, German, and French, though other languages like Spanish, Russian, and Italian are also offered.

Second Foreign Language

Students are also required to take a second foreign language (12 instructional hours over the four-year program). The available languages are the same as those offered for the first foreign language, allowing students to broaden their language skills.

Class Structure

For both the first and second foreign languages, classes are typically divided into smaller groups to facilitate more effective language learning and practice. This is especially common for activities like conversation practice, pronunciation drills, and interactive exercises.
