Slovakia Maturita Exam - Slovak Language and Literature

The Maturita Exam is the standardized school-leaving exam in Slovakia. Slovak language and literature is a compulsory subject in this exam. The exam also includes other compulsory and optional subjects. Students typically take the exam at the end of their secondary education.

The Maturita exam is administered by NIVAM (Národný ústav certifikovaných meraní vzdelávania). Besides Slovak language and literature, other common subjects include foreign languages (such as English, German, French, and Spanish) and Mathematics. Students often choose a foreign language or mathematics as another compulsory subject.

Slovak language and literature holds a significant place in Slovak secondary education. It is a key subject for students in schools where Hungarian is the primary language of instruction. The subject covers both the Slovak language and its literature, encompassing various aspects of language use, literary analysis, and cultural context. Performance in the Maturita exam, particularly in Slovak language and literature, is a crucial factor for university admission in Slovakia. Foreign students do not need to take the Slovak language and literature exam.
