Slovakia Primary 4 Curriculum - Slovak Language and Literature

Primary education in Slovakia consists of two stages:

  • Lower Primary (ISCED 1): Grades 1 to 4
  • Upper Primary (ISCED 2): Grades 5 to 9

Slovak Language and Literature is a core subject throughout primary education. The curriculum framework emphasizes the development of key competencies, including communication skills, critical thinking, and cultural awareness.

The National Institute of Education and Youth (NIVAM) is responsible for developing the state educational program, which defines the general goals and framework educational content. Schools then create their own school educational programs based on the state program, adapting it to their specific regional conditions and student needs.

The Ministry of Education approved a reformed state educational program in February 2015, which was implemented in September 2015. A new state educational program is currently under experimental verification and is expected to become compulsory from the 2026/2027 school year.

The framework teaching plans for primary education allocate a specific number of hours per week for each subject. For Slovak Language and Literature, the framework recommends the following hours:

  • Grade 1: 9 hours
  • Grade 2: 8 hours
  • Grade 3: 7 hours
  • Grade 4: 7 hours

While the specific content of the Primary 4 Slovak Language and Literature curriculum remains unavailable through online searches, it is likely covered within the broader state educational program and framework teaching plans. More specific information may be available directly from the Ministry of Education or individual schools in Slovakia.
