Slovenia Gimnazija Curriculum - Elective 3

The Slovenian Gimnazija system is a four-year secondary education program that prepares students for the Matura exam, which is required for university entrance. Students choose electives in addition to compulsory subjects. The Matura exam itself consists of five subjects:

  • Compulsory Subjects:
      • Slovene (Mother Tongue)
      • Mathematics
      • Foreign Language (typically English, German, or Spanish)
  • Elective Subjects (2 chosen by the student):
      • A wide range of subjects are available as electives, encompassing natural sciences (e.g., biology, chemistry, physics), foreign and classical languages (e.g., Latin, Greek, Italian, French, Spanish, German, Russian), humanities (e.g., history, philosophy), social sciences (e.g., sociology, psychology), technical subjects (e.g., computer science, biotechnology), and vocational subjects. Specific elective options may vary between different Gimnazija schools.

Some Gimnazija schools in Slovenia offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme. This is a two-year pre-university course that is recognized internationally.

While the specific 2nd-year elective choices are not readily available, the Matura exam subjects and general curriculum information provide a broad overview of the educational structure and potential elective areas within the Slovenia Gimnazija system. Further information may be available by contacting individual Gimnazija schools directly.
