Slovenia 6th Grade Curriculum (Primary School) - German (Optional)

German Language:

German is offered as a first foreign language elective starting from the first grade in Slovenian primary schools. It becomes a compulsory subject from the second grade onwards, with schools choosing between English and German as the primary first foreign language option. In some schools, German may also be offered as a second or third foreign language in later grades (7th to 9th). At the European School Ljubljana, students can choose between English, German, and French as their first foreign language from the first grade (P1).

While English is the most commonly chosen first foreign language, German remains a popular option, particularly in certain regions. Some bilingual schools in regions like Carinthia offer instruction in both German and Slovenian.

General Curriculum (6th Grade):

Primary school in Slovenia is compulsory and free, lasting nine years and divided into three three-year cycles. Nationwide tests are administered in the 3rd, 6th, and 9th grades. The extended program, which includes remedial and supplementary lessons, is free of charge and non-compulsory.
