Slovenia Primary School Physical Education

Physical education is a compulsory subject for all school-aged children in Slovenia. Primary school consists of nine years, divided into three three-year periods. From 1st to 6th grade, students have 105 hours of physical education. Primary schools are mandated to provide two to three physical education lessons per week, each lasting 45 minutes. In addition to regular PE classes, schools offer other school-based sporting activities. Physical education teachers typically hold university degrees. The curriculum emphasizes equal opportunities for physical activity. Research suggests that Slovenian primary school children in grades 4-6 are physically active most days of the week. There are nationwide tests in 3rd, 6th, and 9th grade.
