Slovenia Osnovna šola 8. razred Curriculum - Music - Musical Project

This information is derived from the official Slovenian Ministry of Education curriculum for Music Education in primary school.

Overall Curriculum Structure:

The curriculum is divided into three learning periods:

  • First Learning Period (Grades 1-3): Focuses on developing basic musical skills through singing, rhythmic speaking, playing instruments, and listening.
  • Second Learning Period (Grades 4-6): Introduces music literacy, expands performance skills, develops harmonic hearing, and deepens musical experiences.
  • Third Learning Period (Grades 7-9): Explores music literature from different stylistic periods, develops critical listening skills, and encourages creative expression.

8th Grade Specifics:

The 8th-grade curriculum falls within the Third Learning Period and dedicates 35 hours to music education.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Performing: Students perform Slovenian and international folk and art music from the 18th and 19th centuries (Classical and Romantic periods). They continue to develop their singing and instrumental playing techniques, incorporating elements of interpretation.
  • Creating: Students express their musical experiences and interpretations of selected music through creative activities in other art forms. They also create vocal and instrumental musical content, practicing improvisation and arranging accompaniments.
  • Listening: Students develop their ability to recognize, compare, understand, and evaluate the characteristics of Classical and Romantic music. They explore and appreciate the works of prominent Slovenian and international composers.

Integration with other subjects:

The curriculum emphasizes interdisciplinary connections with other subjects, including Slovene language, history, art, physical education, and civics and ethics. These connections help students understand music within a broader cultural and historical context.

Assessment:

Assessment is an integral part of the learning process and includes various methods such as oral and written assessments, evaluation of performances and creative projects, and self-assessment. Music listening skills are not formally assessed. Clear criteria for assessment are established and communicated to students and parents.
