Slovenia 9th Grade Curriculum - Civics and Ethics

Civics and Ethics education in Slovenia is an evolving field involving various actors and institutions. In the nine-year elementary school system (ages 6-15), civics education is integrated into several subjects, including Slovenian language (grades 1-9), social studies (grades 4-5), and history and geography (grades 6-9).

Specifically in 9th grade, an optional subject called "Civic Culture" is offered. This subject delves deeper into civics topics than the integrated approach in other subjects. "Civic Culture" was introduced as an elective in the general secondary education curriculum. In earlier grades (7th and 8th), the compulsory subject "Patriotic and Civic Culture and Ethics" is taught for one hour per week. There is also mention of "Civic Education and Ethics" taught in 7th and 8th grade. In secondary school, students have compulsory elective subjects related to peace education, family, nonviolence, and civic culture.
