Slovenia 9th Grade History (Zgodovina) Curriculum

Compulsory Topics (Obvezne teme):

  • Political Characteristics of the 20th Century (Politične značilnosti 20. stoletja): This topic explores the major political shifts and events of the 20th century, including World War I, the rise of dictatorships and totalitarian regimes, World War II, the Cold War, decolonization, and the increasing integration of Europe and the world. Students will analyze peace treaties, compare different forms of government, and understand the causes and consequences of major conflicts. They will also examine the development of international relations and the role of international organizations.
  • Economic Changes in the 20th and 21st Centuries (Gospodarske spremembe v 20. in 21. stoletju): This topic focuses on the economic transformations of the past two centuries, including the role of industrialization, the impact of World War I on global economies, the comparison of capitalist and socialist economic models, economic growth and crises, and the phenomenon of globalization. Students will analyze the economic consequences of major events and explore different economic policies and their effects.
  • Slovenians in the 20th and 21st Centuries (Slovenci v 20. in 21. stoletju): This topic delves into the history of Slovenians during this period, covering their national position within Austria-Hungary, the formation of Yugoslavia, the pursuit of autonomy, developments between the World Wars, the experience of World War II, life under socialist Yugoslavia, the drive for independence, and Slovenia's integration into the international community. Students will examine the political, economic, and cultural aspects of Slovenian history and analyze the impact of these events on Slovenian society.

  • Changing Everyday Life in the 20th Century (Spreminjanje vsakdanjika v 20. stoletju): This topic examines the social and cultural changes that shaped everyday life during the 20th century. Students will explore changes in family structures, adolescence, lifestyle habits, leisure activities, social interactions, and the role of women. They will also analyze the impact of social movements, migration, and cultural exchange on societies.
  • Wars in the 20th and 21st Centuries (Vojne v 20. in 21. stoletju): This topic provides an in-depth look at the major wars and conflicts of the past two centuries, including World War I, civil wars, World War II, the Cold War, and contemporary conflicts. Students will compare the characteristics of these wars, analyze the causes and consequences, and explore the role of new technologies and weaponry. They will also examine liberation movements and the phenomenon of terrorism.
