Slovenia 9th Grade Curriculum - Mathematics (4 hours/week)
The Slovenian mathematics curriculum for grades 1 through 9 covers numbers, geometry, algebra, calculus, and statistics. The curriculum includes general goals, topics for each grade, optional topics, didactical recommendations, and basic standards of knowledge expected at the end of each three-year period. Minimal standards are also defined for each grade, which students must meet to advance. The curriculum also addresses problem-solving approaches, homework policies, individualization, differentiation, development of mathematical competencies, cross-curricular connections, assessment policies, the use of ICT and calculators, and recommended materials.
While specific topics for 9th grade are not readily available, the curriculum aims to develop basic mathematical competence for expressing mathematical ideas and appreciating mathematics as a cultural value. It emphasizes developing mathematical thinking, using procedures and technologies, teaching mathematical facts, structures, and skills, connecting mathematical knowledge with other areas, and building students' confidence and positive attitudes towards work and mathematics.
National Assessment
At the end of 9th grade, students in Slovenia participate in a national assessment of knowledge. This assessment covers the Slovenian language, mathematics, and a third subject, which can be a foreign language or another chosen subject. The grades obtained in mathematics and Slovene language on this national examination are used as selection criteria for entering secondary school. |
