Slovenia Art (Likovna umetnost) Curriculum - Gymnasium Level
This curriculum outlines the course of study for Art (Likovna umetnost) at the Gymnasium level in Slovenia, encompassing both Visual Design (Likovno snovanje) and Art History (Umetnostna zgodovina). The curriculum is designed for general, classical, and specialized Gymnasium programs.
Visual Design (Likovno snovanje) (35 hours)
This component focuses on the creative process, from concept to realization and reflection. It emphasizes practical artistic expression using various tools and materials. Key objectives include developing students' creativity, artistic experience, and understanding of art, engaging with contemporary art practices, and recognizing the applicability of art in personal, social, and professional life.
Core Areas of Study:
- Drawing (Risanje): Students expand their knowledge of line and point, master composition principles, understand the significance of format, and delve into perspective and construction drawing. They analyze their own work, as well as the work of peers and artists, considering both visual language and content.
- Painting (Slikanje): Building on elementary school knowledge, students explore color theory, including harmonies and contrasts, modeling, and modulation. They develop a sense of color balance and learn about various painting techniques. Analysis of their own work, as well as the work of peers and artists, is encouraged.
- Sculpture (Kiparstvo): Working with diverse materials and tools, students develop a spatial understanding and explore sculptural forms, including relief and assemblage. They learn about the properties of sculptural materials and tools and analyze their work and the work of others.
- Spatial Design (Prostorsko oblikovanje): Students expand their understanding of natural and cultural spaces, focusing on architectural elements and urban planning. They develop a sense of design and project work, and analyze their own designs and those of architects.
- Graphics (Grafika): Students explore various graphic techniques, learning the associated artistic concepts and terminology. They create graphic works and analyze their own creations, as well as the work of graphic artists, focusing on visual language, tools, and materials.
- Contemporary Art Practices and Media, Visual Communications (Sodobne umetniške prakse in mediji, vizualne komunikacije): This area introduces students to conceptual art and visual communication. They engage with contemporary artistic practices, analyze visual communications, and express their ideas through various media, including digital photography, video, and animation. They may also create conceptual pieces, transform objects or spaces, and experiment with new technologies.
Art History (Umetnostna zgodovina) (35 hours)
This component provides students with an overview of art history from prehistory to the present day. It aims to develop a critical approach to art, an appreciation for aesthetics, and an understanding of the role of art in society.
