Slovenia Matura Exam: German

The Matura exam in Slovenia is a standardized test taken by students at the end of their secondary education. It is a requirement for entry into higher education institutions. The exam consists of both compulsory and elective subjects.

Compulsory Subjects:

  • Slovene (or Hungarian or Italian in ethnically mixed areas)
  • Mathematics

Elective Subjects: Students choose two elective subjects, which can include foreign languages such as German, English, Spanish, French, Russian, and Italian.

German as an Elective Subject: While specific details about the German Matura exam syllabus are not readily available, it is known that German is offered as an elective subject. The exam typically assesses reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. Two levels of difficulty are available: basic and higher.

Exam Format: The Matura exam is administered in two series: spring (May-June) and autumn (August-September). A mock exam is also held in March for Year 4 students.

The State Examination Centre (RIC): The RIC is responsible for developing and administering the Matura exam. While a specific syllabus for the German Matura exam could not be located, the RIC website offers information on other aspects of the Matura exam.

Additional Information:

  • The Matura exam is comparable to A-Levels, the Abitur, or the Baccalauréat.
  • Students who do not pass the Matura exam may retake the exam after repeating the final year of secondary school. A third attempt is not permitted.

It is recommended to consult the State Examination Centre (RIC) website and other relevant resources for the most up-to-date information regarding the German Matura exam in Slovenia.
