Slovenia Matura Exam Subjects - Languages

The Matura exam in Slovenia is the final examination for secondary school students, required for higher education. It consists of compulsory and optional subjects.

Compulsory Subjects

  • Mother Tongue: Slovene is the primary mother tongue. In ethnically mixed areas, Hungarian or Italian are also offered.
  • Mathematics: This subject is compulsory for all students.
  • Foreign Language: Students must choose one foreign language from the following options: English, French, German, Italian, Russian, or Spanish.

Optional Subjects

Students can choose additional optional subjects based on their interests and chosen field of study. While the specific optional subjects are not detailed here, the Matura exam previously included optional subjects and required a total of five subjects. Historically, four subjects were compulsory (Slovene, a foreign language, Mathematics, and History) with one optional subject.
