Slovenia Gimnazija: History Curriculum
History is a compulsory subject in Slovenian Gimnazija, a general secondary school preparing students for university. It is studied for four years, culminating in the matura exam, a national external examination taken at the end of the Gimnazija program. The matura includes five subjects, one of which is history. Other compulsory subjects include Slovene, mathematics, two foreign languages, and physical education. Additional compulsory courses include geography, biology, chemistry, physics, music, art education, psychology, sociology, philosophy, and information science.
While the specific topics covered in the 2nd year of Gimnazija history are not readily available, some schools offer additional resources and programs. For example, II. gimnazija Maribor offers an International Baccalaureate program, which includes history as a subject area. They also offer extra-curricular activities such as art history excursions. Some Gimnazija schools, like Gimnazija Vič, offer subjects like history, sociology, psychology, philosophy, music, art/history of art, and physical education for a minimum of one school year. Gimnazija Kranj offers history as part of their IB Diploma Programme. |
