South Africa Grade 5 Creative Arts Syllabus

This syllabus covers the learning areas of Dance, Drama, Music, and Visual Arts. Learners develop their voice, body, and mind to express themselves through various art forms.

Term 1

This term focuses on developing foundational skills in various art forms. Resources such as term 1 booklets and workbooks are available to aid learning. A lesson plan for Performing Arts is also available.

Term 2

Building upon the first term, learners explore different techniques in performing arts, including relaxation, voice warm-ups, and rhythm patterns. A Visual Art lesson plan is available for this term. Additional resources include a schemes of work document, a visual art assessment, and an activity book. Formal assessments for this term may include a rubric-based evaluation of South African songs.

Term 3

This term often involves practical assessments. Learners may be assessed on creating a dance, drama, and music performance. A visual arts clay assessment is also a possibility. A visual art lesson plan is available. Workbooks and booklets are available to support learning during this term.

Term 4

The final term focuses on consolidating the skills learned throughout the year. A combined performing and visual arts assessment is typical. A visual art lesson plan is available. A term 4 assessment and workbook are also available.
