South Africa Grade 9 Life Orientation
This course focuses on developing the self in society and preparing learners for a healthy and productive life. It covers several key areas:
- Constitutional Rights and Responsibilities: Learners explore the South African Constitution, Bill of Rights, and the values upon which the Republic is founded (human dignity, equality, and freedom). This includes understanding children's rights and responsibilities.
- Development of the Self in Society: This topic delves into personal development, including exploring identity, building self-esteem, managing emotions, and developing healthy relationships with friends, peers, and family. Cultural diversity within South Africa is also examined.
- Health, Social, and Environmental Responsibility: Learners study physical and mental health, including topics such as nutrition, substance abuse, and stress management. Social responsibility covers issues like violence, safety, and community involvement. Environmental responsibility focuses on sustainable living and conservation.
- Physical Education: This component promotes physical activity and healthy lifestyles through participation in various sports and fitness activities.
- World of Work: This area introduces learners to the world of work, exploring different career paths, the importance of work in society, and the skills needed for employment. It also covers subject choices for further education and their connection to career options.
Assessment:
The Formal Programme of Assessment includes four tasks per grade, each worth 100 marks.
