South Sudan Primary 3 Curriculum - English

This curriculum is based on the Primary English Teacher's Guide 3, developed by the Ministry of General Education and Instruction, Government of South Sudan. It aims to provide a fun, practical approach to English while imparting lifelong skills. The guide covers the national syllabus and emphasizes collaboration and real-life application. The curriculum is designed to equip pupils with skills for a modern global society.

Units:

  • Unit 1: Commands and Instructions: This unit introduces basic vocabulary for commands and instructions, differentiating between the two. Learners practice giving and following commands and instructions in various contexts, including simple classroom tasks. Activities include singing, acting, and creating their own sets of commands.
  • Unit 2: Myself: Learners develop vocabulary to talk about themselves, their daily activities, and their friends. They practice describing themselves and others using appropriate parts of speech and tenses. Activities include role-playing, storytelling, and games.
  • Unit 3: Our Payam: This unit focuses on vocabulary related to the learner's Payam (administrative division). Learners discuss the location, people, and social services in their Payam. Activities include discussions, role-playing, and independent reading and writing.
  • Unit 4: Economic Activities in Our Payam: Learners explore vocabulary related to economic activities within their Payam. They discuss different jobs and their importance to the community. Activities include role-playing, storytelling, and creating presentations about different jobs.
  • Unit 5: Our Environment: This unit introduces vocabulary related to environmental pollution and conservation. Learners discuss sources of pollution and ways to protect the environment. Activities include discussions, creating rhymes, and planning an environmental project.
  • Unit 6: Climate and Disasters: Learners develop vocabulary related to climate and natural disasters. They discuss different climatic conditions and how people adapt to them. Activities include drawing, discussions, debates, and creating poems.
  • Unit 7: Games and Sports: Learners explore vocabulary related to games and sports. They discuss their favorite sports and learn about famous sportspeople. Activities include playing games, conducting surveys, and writing about sports.
  • Unit 8: Physical Features of Our Payam: This unit focuses on vocabulary related to physical features like rivers, mountains, and forests. Learners discuss the importance of these features and their impact on the environment. Activities include matching exercises, descriptive writing, and creating poems.
  • Unit 9: Peace and Security: Learners discuss the importance of peace and security in their community. They explore the causes of insecurity and ways to promote peace. Activities include discussions, role-playing, and writing.
  • Unit 10: Transport and Travel: Learners develop vocabulary related to transport and travel. They discuss different means of transport and how they have changed over time. Activities include discussions, role-playing, debates, and writing.
  • Unit 11: Accidents and Safety: Learners explore vocabulary related to accidents and safety, focusing on common accidents and preventive measures. Activities include discussions, creating instructions, and writing a newspaper report.
  • Unit 12: Health and Hygiene: This unit focuses on vocabulary related to health and hygiene. Learners discuss healthy living habits and the importance of hygiene. Activities include drawing, discussions, playing games, and writing.
  • Unit 13: Occupations in Our Payam: Learners explore different occupations within their Payam and discuss their importance. Activities include discussions, role-playing, and writing.
  • Unit 14: Children's Rights: Learners develop vocabulary related to children's rights and responsibilities. They discuss their own responsibilities and the lives of children in other countries. Activities include discussions, debates, and writing.
  • Unit 15: Technology: This unit introduces vocabulary related to technology and common technological devices. Learners discuss the impact of technology on their community. Activities include discussions, role-playing, and writing.
