South Sudan Secondary 2 - English S-2 Curriculum

The English S-2 curriculum in South Sudan focuses on developing four key skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. There is also an emphasis on using English for research and inquiry to investigate topics, interpret, analyze, integrate, and present information and literary forms. The curriculum aims to equip students with the ability to understand a wide range of spoken and written English, including complex texts, and to communicate effectively in various contexts. Students are expected to analyze and evaluate literary and informational texts, selecting supporting evidence for their views.

The S-2 curriculum builds upon the S-1 curriculum, with a greater focus on range and variety of language, and the ability to analyze and evaluate texts. Key learning outcomes for S-2 include understanding extended speech in unfamiliar contexts, summarizing key points and details, leading discussions, understanding texts outside their field of expertise, and producing well-structured texts expressing arguments or specific viewpoints using a wide range of language.

The textbooks are structured to include all four skills within each unit, covering a variety of contexts. The themes of the units serve as contexts for skill development and are not the primary focus of assessment. The curriculum emphasizes ongoing classroom-based assessment to ensure learning is tailored to individual student needs.

Due to COVID-19 related school closures in 2020, syllabus adjustments were made for the 2021 academic year. For Secondary 2 English, this involved covering specific units from both the Secondary 1 and Secondary 2 textbooks. The selected units aim to address key concepts, skills, and learning outcomes while considering the appropriate order of learning and the requirements for the South Sudan Examination Specifications and Blueprints.
