Spain Bachillerato 1 - Science and Technology > Biology and Geology

This course covers the fundamental principles of Biology and Geology, preparing students for further studies in science and related fields. It emphasizes the development of scientific thinking, problem-solving skills, and an understanding of the natural world. The curriculum is based on Real Decreto 243/2022, established by the Ministerio de Educación y Formación Profesional.

Biology

This course delves into the molecular mechanisms governing life processes, building upon prior knowledge from secondary education. It covers biomolecules, molecular genetics, cell biology, metabolism, biotechnology, and immunology. The course emphasizes the importance of scientific inquiry, critical thinking, and the relationship between molecular and macroscopic characteristics of organisms.

Geology and Environmental Sciences

This course explores the Earth's systems and processes, including its history, dynamics, composition, and resources. It also addresses environmental challenges and the importance of sustainability. The course emphasizes practical application of geological principles, fieldwork, and understanding the impact of human activities on the environment.

Specific Competencies

The Biology and Geology course aims to develop the following specific competencies:

  • Biology:
      • Interpret and transmit scientific information and data, and argue based on them.
      • Locate, select, and contrast scientific information.
      • Critically analyze the conclusions of research papers.
      • Pose and solve problems related to biological sciences.
      • Analyze the importance of healthy and sustainable lifestyles.
      • Relate the molecular characteristics of organisms to their macroscopic characteristics.
  • Geology and Environmental Sciences:
      • Interpret and transmit scientific information and data, and argue based on them.
      • Locate and critically evaluate scientific information.
      • Apply scientific methods in research projects.
      • Solve problems related to biological, geological, and environmental sciences.
      • Promote initiatives related to health and sustainability.
      • Analyze the geological record.

Assessment

Assessment in Biology and Geology is continuous and competency-based. It focuses on the student's ability to apply knowledge, skills, and attitudes in various contexts, rather than rote memorization. A variety of assessment methods are used, including practical work, projects, and presentations.
