This course aims to develop comprehensive skills in Spanish language and literature. The curriculum is built around specific competencies, evaluation criteria, and core knowledge areas.

Specific Competencies:

1. Linguistic Diversity: Understanding and appreciating the linguistic diversity of Spain and the Spanish language, including dialects and the influence of other languages. This involves analyzing linguistic and discursive aspects in oral, written, and multimodal forms.

2. Oral and Multimodal Comprehension: Comprehending and interpreting complex oral and multimodal texts, particularly academic texts and media, identifying the speaker's viewpoint and intention, and evaluating the reliability and quality of the content.

3. Oral and Multimodal Production: Producing rigorous, fluent, coherent, and cohesive oral and multimodal texts, especially academic texts, adhering to conventions of different discursive genres, and participating in respectful and cooperative oral interactions.

4. Written Text Comprehension: Critically comprehending, interpreting, and evaluating written texts, including academic and media texts, identifying main ideas, making inferences, recognizing the author's intention, and assessing the quality and reliability of the information.

5. Written and Multimodal Production: Producing coherent, cohesive, appropriate, and correct written and multimodal texts, focusing on academic genres, to construct knowledge and respond effectively to specific communicative demands.

6. Information Evaluation and Synthesis: Evaluating the reliability and relevance of information from various sources, avoiding manipulation and misinformation, and integrating and transforming information into knowledge for communication with a critical and personal perspective while respecting intellectual property.

7. Contemporary Literature: Independently selecting and reading relevant works of contemporary literature for pleasure and knowledge, developing a progressively diverse and complex reading itinerary, and sharing reading experiences.

8. Spanish and Latin American Literature: Reading, interpreting, and appreciating relevant works of Spanish and Latin American literature, using specific metalanguage, and connecting texts with biographical experiences and cultural knowledge.

9. Language Structure and Use: Consolidating and deepening explicit and systematic knowledge of language structure and usage, reflecting on linguistic and discursive choices, and improving communication skills.

10. Ethical and Democratic Language Use: Using communication practices to promote democratic coexistence, conflict resolution, and equal rights, employing non-discriminatory language and avoiding abuses of power through words.

Core Knowledge Areas:

  • A. Languages and their Speakers: Covers the sociohistorical development and current situation of Spain's languages, dialects, interlinguistic reflection, linguistic stereotypes, language contact phenomena, and linguistic rights.
  • B. Communication: Focuses on strategies for producing, comprehending, and critically analyzing oral, written, and multimodal texts, considering context, discursive genres, communication processes, and linguistic elements.
  • C. Literary Education: Includes autonomous reading of contemporary literature and guided reading of classic Spanish literature, emphasizing interpretation, analysis, and creative writing.
  • D. Reflection on Language: Involves developing conclusions about the linguistic system using specific metalanguage, observing, comparing, and classifying communicative units, and contrasting different languages. This includes understanding the different levels of language (phonological, morphological, syntactic, and semantic).
