Spain 3º ESO Foreign Language (English) Curriculum
The Spanish education system includes Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO) for students aged 12-16, divided into four courses. 3º ESO corresponds to students typically aged 14-15. The curriculum is governed by the Organic Law for the Improvement of Educational Quality (LOMLOE), which came into effect during the 2022-2023 school year. LOMLOE emphasizes key competencies like communication, multilingualism, digital skills, learning to learn, social and civic competencies, sense of initiative and entrepreneurship, and cultural awareness and expression.
Specifically for Foreign Languages, LOMLOE defines six specific competencies:
1. Linguistic comprehension: Understanding spoken and written texts.
2. Linguistic production: Producing spoken and written texts.
3. Interaction: Engaging in spoken and written communication.
4. Mediation: Facilitating communication between individuals.
5. Plurilingual competence: Using diverse linguistic repertoires.
6. Intercultural competence: Interacting effectively in intercultural situations.
The curriculum aims to develop communicative competence in English, focusing on practical language use in real-world contexts. It also emphasizes intercultural understanding and respect for linguistic diversity.
While English is the most commonly studied foreign language, other languages like French and German are also offered. There are resources available for teachers to implement the LOMLOE curriculum, including guides, learning materials, and online platforms. |
