Introduction

The Physical Education curriculum for 5º de Primaria in Spain, under the LOMLOE framework, focuses on developing students' physical literacy and promoting a healthy lifestyle. 1. Adopting an Active and Healthy Lifestyle: Students are expected to understand the physical and mental benefits of regular physical activity and integrate healthy practices into their daily lives. They should also learn to recognize and address behaviors that are detrimental to health or social harmony, rejecting violence, discrimination, and gender stereotypes.

Evaluation Criteria:*

      • Recognize the physical and mental benefits of physical activity.
      • Integrate warm-up, cool-down, and hygiene routines into physical activity.
      • Adopt safety measures before, during, and after physical activity.
      • Identify and address harmful behaviors related to physical activity and sports.

2. Adapting Physical and Motor Skills: Students develop their body awareness, physical capacities, and motor skills through various movement situations. They learn to apply perception, decision-making, and execution processes to meet the demands of different motor projects and practices.

Evaluation Criteria:*

      • Develop individual, cooperative, and collaborative motor projects.
      • Apply decision-making principles in games and sports.
      • Demonstrate increasing control and mastery of physical movements.

3. Developing Self-Regulation and Interaction: Students learn to regulate their behavior and interact positively with others during physical activity. This includes demonstrating empathy, inclusivity, cooperation, respect, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

Evaluation Criteria:*

      • Participate in motor activities with self-regulation, effort, and perseverance.
      • Respect rules and demonstrate sportsmanship.
      • Show social skills, dialogue in conflict resolution, and respect for diversity.

4. Recognizing and Practicing Cultural Expressions of Movement: Students explore and appreciate diverse forms of movement, including games, sports, dance, and other artistic expressions. They learn to value their cultural significance and integrate them into their daily lives.

Evaluation Criteria:*

      • Participate in games and artistic expressions from different cultures.
      • Analyze gender stereotypes and sexist behaviors in sports.
      • Create and communicate through rhythmic and expressive movement.

5. Interacting Efficiently and Sustainably with the Environment: Students learn to adapt their movements to different natural and urban environments while understanding the importance of conservation and sustainability.

Evaluation Criteria:*

      • Adapt motor actions to the uncertainty of natural and urban environments.
      • Value the possibilities of different environments for physical activity.
      • Act from an eco-sustainable and community perspective.

Basic Knowledge (Third Cycle)

The curriculum outlines basic knowledge areas that underpin the development of the specific competencies:

  • Active and Healthy Life: Physical, mental, and social health benefits of physical activity; healthy eating and hydration; postural education; personal responsibility for body care; impact of unhealthy habits; gender stereotypes and body image.
  • Organization and Management of Physical Activity: Purposes of physical activity; consumerism related to equipment; hygiene habits; planning and self-regulation of motor projects; accident prevention; basic first aid.
  • Problem Solving in Motor Situations: Decision-making in individual, cooperative, and oppositional situations; perceptual-motor skills; physical capacities; basic motor skills; motor creativity.
  • Emotional Self-Regulation and Social Interaction: Emotional management; social skills; fair play; addressing and rejecting violent or antisocial behaviors; promoting gender equality.
  • Manifestations of Motor Culture: Cultural contributions of motor activities; sports as a cultural phenomenon; communicative uses of body language; rhythmic and expressive activities; gender perspectives in sport; Olympic and Paralympic sports.
  • Efficient and Sustainable Interaction with the Environment: Safety rules; active and sustainable transportation; accident prevention in natural and urban environments; responsible consumption; care for the environment.
