Spain 3º ESO Mathematics
This course covers a wide range of mathematical concepts, building upon the knowledge acquired in 2º ESO and preparing students for 4º ESO Mathematics. It emphasizes problem-solving skills, utilizing various strategies and applying mathematical processes to real-world situations. The curriculum is often divided into units and covers topics grouped into thematic blocks.
Numbers and Algebra
- Fractions and Rational Numbers: This unit reviews the concept of fractions, their different meanings (quotient, operator, proportion, percentage), classification (proper, improper, mixed), simplification, and ordering. It also covers operations with fractions (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) and converting between fractions and decimals.
- Powers and Roots: This unit explores powers and roots, including their properties and operations.
- Polynomials: This unit introduces algebraic expressions, monomials, and polynomials. It covers operations with polynomials (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division), including notable products, the remainder theorem, roots of a polynomial, and factorization.
- Equations: This unit covers different types of equations, including linear equations, quadratic equations, and systems of equations. It also focuses on problem-solving using equations, including problems involving clocks, motion, mixtures, and geometric problems.
Geometry
- Plane Geometry: This unit reviews the properties of plane figures, including polygons and circles. It covers topics such as classifying triangles, notable points in triangles, Pythagorean theorem, angles in a circle, and areas of plane figures.
- Spatial Geometry: This unit introduces three-dimensional figures, including polyhedra (cubes, prisms, pyramids) and curved solids (cylinders, cones, spheres). It covers their properties, elements, and calculations of surface area and volume.
- Transformations in the Plane and Space: This unit explores geometric transformations, including translations, rotations, and symmetries (central and axial).
Functions and Graphs
- Functions and Graphs: This unit introduces the concept of a function, its graphical representation, and different types of functions, including linear, affine, constant, quadratic, rational, radical, piecewise, absolute value, exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions.
Statistics and Probability
- Statistics: This unit covers statistical concepts such as variables, frequency tables, different types of diagrams (bar graphs, histograms, pie charts), and statistical parameters (mode, median, mean, quartiles, deciles, percentiles, standard deviation, variance, coefficient of variation).
- Probability: This unit introduces probability, including types of events, probability space, operations with events, properties of probability, Laplace's law, combinatorics and probability, conditional probability, compound probability, contingency tables, tree diagrams, the total probability theorem, and Bayes' theorem.
Financial Education: This unit covers basic financial concepts. |
