Sri Lanka Advanced Level (A/L) Examination Syllabus
The Sri Lanka Advanced Level (A/L) Examination is a national level examination taken after grade 13. It serves as an entrance requirement for Sri Lankan state universities and is considered a highly competitive examination. The examination is offered in Sinhala, Tamil, and English mediums.
Students select subjects based on different streams: Physical Science, Science, Commerce, Arts, and Technology. In addition to subject-specific exams, students must also take General English and a Common General Test.
Subject Streams and Optional Subjects
Here are some of the optional subjects available within the streams:
1. English: The A/L English syllabus focuses on developing key competencies in language and literature. Resources are available covering poetry, short stories, drama, and exam preparation.
2. Information Technology (ICT): The ICT syllabus covers both theoretical and practical aspects of computing, including data representation, digital circuits, operating systems, and programming. Students in the Technology stream also take a common subject called Science for Technology, which combines basic concepts from math, physics, chemistry, biology, and ICT.
3. Economics: The Economics syllabus covers fundamental economic principles, microeconomics, macroeconomics, and the Sri Lankan economy.
4. Geography: The Geography syllabus covers physical geography, human geography, and Sri Lankan geography.
5. Home Economics: The Home Economics syllabus covers topics related to family, nutrition, and resource management.
6. Business Studies: The Business Studies syllabus covers various aspects of business organization, management, and the Sri Lankan business environment.
7. Media Studies: The Media Studies syllabus focuses on communication, media literacy, and media production.
8. Agricultural Science: The Agricultural Science syllabus covers the scientific principles of agriculture, crop production, and animal husbandry. |
