Sri Lanka GCE Ordinary Level Subjects - Basket 2: Orientation Music, Western Music, Carnatic Music, Dancing

Students taking the Sri Lanka GCE Ordinary Level examination are required to select one subject from Basket 2, which includes several options in music and dance. These subjects provide students with an opportunity to explore their artistic talents and develop a deeper appreciation for the arts.

Music

Basket 2 offers three distinct music subjects:

  • Orientation Music: This subject provides a broad overview of music, encompassing various styles and traditions.
  • Western Music: This subject focuses on the history, theory, and performance of Western classical music.
  • Carnatic Music: This subject delves into the rich tradition of Carnatic music from South India. Students can access past papers and answers to aid their studies.

Dancing

Basket 2 also includes options for dance:

  • Dancing (Oriental): This subject explores various forms of traditional Sri Lankan dance. Past papers and answers are available for the Dancing subject.
  • Bharatha Dancing: This subject focuses on the classical Indian dance form of Bharatanatyam.

It's important to note that the structure of the GCE Ordinary Level examination may be subject to change. For instance, from 2026, the number of subjects may be limited to seven. Students should consult official resources for the most up-to-date information.
