Sri Lanka Grade 6 Curriculum - Aesthetic Subjects: Music

Western Music

The Grade 6 Western Music curriculum in Sri Lanka aims to develop musical literacy and appreciation in students. Resources available for this curriculum include teacher's guides, workbooks, and supplementary manuals. These resources are designed to align with the prescribed syllabus and facilitate effective classroom instruction. A supplementary manual provides further support for teachers, linking lessons to the competencies and competency levels outlined in the Western Music Teacher's Guide. Additional materials such as workbooks and listening tests are also available to enhance student learning. Term plans covering various aspects of vocal music, music theory, instrumental performance, and music appreciation are accessible as well. The curriculum also incorporates environmental sounds, particularly bird song, connecting music to the natural world. Introductory lessons on Western music fundamentals, such as notes of the treble clef, are available online. Further resources, including past papers, short notes, and textbooks, can be found online.
