Sri Lanka Grade 7 Health Syllabus - Health and Physical Education

This syllabus covers essential learning areas for Grade 7 Health and Physical Education, focusing on developing physical, mental, and social skills in a fun and engaging way. The first term syllabus (up to September 7, 2022) is outlined below.

Term 1 (Till September 7, 2022)

1. Contributing to the Building of a Healthy Society

  • Concept of Health: Explains the concept of family health and its promotion. Charts the characteristics of a healthy environment, including physical, mental, and social aspects.
      • Physical Environment: Access to clean air and water, freedom from sound and accident-related pollution, clean surroundings, sanitation facilities, and adequate space. Importance of consuming healthy food.
      • Mental Environment: Freedom from bullying and stress, effective leisure time management, and the presence of love, security, and attention.
      • Social Environment: Working in groups, interpersonal relationships, and understanding duties and responsibilities.

2. Fulfilling Human Needs for a Healthy Life

  • Concept of Love and Security: Explains the meaning of love and security among human needs. Identifies individuals connected by love and security, including family members (parents, siblings, other relatives), neighbors, and individuals from various institutions. Discusses streamlining differences in hopes, thoughts, and desires among individuals. Explains one's responsibilities and duties in fulfilling the needs of love and security for oneself and others.

3. Spending Leisure Time Effectively

  • Folk Games: Engaging in folk games for pleasure, both with and without equipment, in pairs or groups.
  • Volleyball: Developing skills in underarm serving and receiving in volleyball, including training exercises.
  • Netball: Developing footwork skills in netball through training exercises.
  • Football: Developing skills in kicking and controlling the ball, including kicking with the inside and front of the foot (instep), ball control techniques (stopping with the inside, surface, and sole of the foot), and training exercises.
