Sri Lanka Grade 10 School Syllabus - Mathematics
This syllabus covers a range of mathematical concepts, building upon the foundations laid in previous grades. The curriculum aims to develop learners' problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills, preparing them for further learning and career development. The syllabus emphasizes practical activities and real-life applications of mathematics to foster a deeper understanding of the subject.
Main Topics
- Sets: Ordered pairs, operations with universal sets (up to three sets), and problem-solving involving set notations.
- Number Systems: Squares, square roots, cubes, cube roots using prime factorization, quadratic sequences, and optimization of area and volume.
- Geometry: Interior and exterior angles of polygons, angle properties and tangents of circles, surface area and volume of solids, geometrical vectors, enlargements with negative and fractional scale factors, and combinations of transformations.
- Finance: Simple and compound interest, graphical representation of financial data, and interpretation of graphs in practical situations (cost, consumption, motion).
- Algebra: Expanding and factorizing quadratic expressions, operations on algebraic fractions, fractional indices, indicial equations, matrices, and simultaneous equations using matrices.
- Probability and Statistics: Probability of combined events using tree diagrams, presenting and interpreting statistical data (frequency polygons, histograms, stem-and-leaf diagrams), measures of spread (percentiles, quartiles, scatter plots, line of best fit, correlation).
- Relations and Functions: Evaluating and generating relations and functions, quadratic and cubic graphs, inverse and exponential graphs, linear inequalities in two variables, linear programming, loci, sine and cosine formulas for triangles, and bearings involving three journeys.
