Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Form 5 Subjects (CSEC) - Business: Economics

This course covers the CSEC Economics syllabus as administered by the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC). It introduces students to economic concepts and principles relevant to understanding how economies function, particularly within the context of small states like those in the Caribbean.

Course Content:

The syllabus is structured into sections covering both microeconomic and macroeconomic principles.

  • Section 1: The Nature of Economics: This section introduces fundamental economic concepts.
  • Section 2: Production, Economic Resources and Growth: This section explores the factors of production, economic growth, and development.
  • Section 3: Demand and Supply: This section examines market mechanisms, including demand, supply, and market equilibrium.
  • Section 4: Market Structures: This section analyzes different market structures such as perfect competition, monopoly, and oligopoly.
  • Section 5: National Income and Economic Indicators: This section covers macroeconomic indicators like GDP, inflation, and unemployment.

Assessment:

The CSEC Economics examination assesses students' understanding of the syllabus through various components, including multiple-choice questions, structured questions, and a School-Based Assessment (SBA). Teachers are advised to use the CXC criteria for marking the SBA.
