Sudan Basic Level Year 5 Curriculum - Arabic

Curriculum Overview

Arabic is taught from Primary 1 onwards in Sudan. English is introduced from Primary 5. The Sudanese Ministry of Education governs the Arabic curriculum. Some schools, such as the Sudan International Grammar School, align their Arabic curriculum with both the British National Curriculum and the Sudanese National Curriculum.

In South Sudan, Arabic language instruction begins in Primary 5 and continues until Secondary 4. The government introduced Arabic language for Primary 5 to 8 learners in 2024. Textbooks for Arabic language instruction in primary and secondary schools were launched in South Sudan in May 2024. A key resolution from a prior education conference mandated Arabic language as a compulsory subject from Primary 5 to Primary 8.

Textbooks and Learning Materials

UNICEF has adapted an e-learning platform to Sudanese Arabic, which includes digitized versions of government textbooks and over 1,400 audio-visual modules.
