Sudan Basic Education - 8th Grade English Curriculum
This curriculum utilizes the Sudan Modern Integrated Learning of English (SMILE) series. The SMILE series is a pupil-centered, standards-based curriculum focusing on communicative approaches to teaching English as a foreign language. It was developed in collaboration with the Sudanese Ministry of Education and the British Council. The series aims to cultivate a positive attitude towards English and develop all four language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

SMILE Curriculum Structure:
The SMILE textbooks are structured into twelve units, each consisting of eight lessons. The eighth lesson of each unit serves as a revision of the preceding seven lessons. The curriculum incorporates various communicative mechanisms, such as dialogues, chants, and stories, often with accompanying audio recordings. The curriculum also includes phonics, cross-curricular topics, and engaging learning activities.
