Suriname's education system is modeled after the Dutch system. Primary education (Gewoon Lager Onderwijs or GLO) is free and compulsory from ages 6 to 12. After completing GLO, students take an exam that determines their placement in lower secondary school. One stream within lower secondary education is MULO (Meer Uitgebreid Lager Onderwijs), which offers two tracks: MULO-A and MULO-B.
MULO-A emphasizes languages and business subjects, preparing students for vocational training or further education in business-related fields. MULO-B focuses on science subjects. After graduating from MULO-A or MULO-B, students can pursue higher education. |
