This information is based on the curriculum document provided by Skolverket (Swedish National Agency for Education):

Overall Purpose:

The Swedish as a Second Language curriculum aims to develop students' communication skills, enabling them to participate fully in Swedish society. It emphasizes developing a rich vocabulary, understanding Swedish language structure, and critically analyzing various texts. The curriculum also encourages reflection on multilingualism and its benefits.

Courses:

The curriculum outlines three sequential courses:

  • Swedish as a Second Language 1 (SVASVA01): 100 credits, building upon compulsory school knowledge.
  • Swedish as a Second Language 2 (SVASVA02): 100 credits, developing skills from the first course.
  • Swedish as a Second Language 3 (SVASVA03): 100 credits, further developing skills from the second course.

Central Content and Knowledge Requirements:

Each course covers core content areas, including oral presentations, written communication, vocabulary and grammar, reading comprehension (including fiction), linguistic variation, and language comparison. Knowledge requirements are outlined for grades A-E, with increasing complexity and proficiency expected at higher grades. Specific details on these requirements can be found in the linked Skolverket document.
