Sweden Grundskola Year 9 Mathematics Curriculum
This curriculum outlines the core content and assessment criteria for Mathematics in Year 9 of the Swedish Grundskola.
Curriculum Goals
Mathematics instruction aims to develop students' abilities to:
- Formulate and solve problems using mathematical methods, and evaluate the effectiveness of their chosen strategies.
- Understand and analyze mathematical concepts and their interrelationships.
- Select and use appropriate mathematical methods for calculations and routine problem-solving.
- Apply and follow mathematical reasoning.
- Use mathematical expressions to represent questions, calculations, conclusions, and demonstrate reasoning.
Core Content
The core content for Year 9 covers the following areas:
- Understanding and Use of Numbers: Real numbers, their properties, and applications; historical development of the number system; using exponents and prefixes; calculations with fractions and decimals; assessing the plausibility of calculations.
- Algebra: Variables, expressions, formulas, and equations; methods for solving equations.
- Geometry: Geometric objects, properties, and relationships; representing and constructing geometric objects; scale, similarity, and symmetry; calculating area, circumference, and volume; geometric theorems and formulas.
- Probability and Statistics: Standard probability and calculations; combinatorial principles; interpreting and using tables, diagrams, and graphs; using digital tools for data representation; assessing risk and chance based on statistical information.
- Relationships and Change: Percentage and its use in expressing change and rate of change; functions and linear equations.
- Problem Solving: Strategies for problem-solving; formulating mathematical questions; using mathematical models.
Assessment and Grading
Assessment criteria are based on the competencies listed above. National tests are administered at the end of Year 9 to assess student achievement and support teachers in grading. The grading system uses a six-point scale (A-F), where A-E are passing grades and F represents a failing grade. |
