Sweden Year 2 Music Curriculum

The Swedish national compulsory school curriculum emphasizes music-making as the core activity, both vocal and instrumental Group work with peers is the main working principle. Over nine years, music should be taught for at least 230 hours out of a total of 6,665 instructional hours From years 7-9, students can choose classes with a special emphasis on music The curriculum includes playing and creating music, tools of music, and context Sami music (local Indigenous population) is learned during years 4-6 Additional resources for Year 2 music are available online There are also model music curriculum resources available specifically for Year 2 Units of work and resources for teaching Year 2 curriculum music are available from Sing Up Outside of the general education system, General Music Schools and General Arts Schools provide music education to students from 9 to 18+ years of age The vast majority of Swedish music and arts schools are run by local municipalities
