Technology Programme (Teknikprogrammet)

The Technology Programme (Teknikprogrammet) is a university-preparatory programme in Swedish upper secondary education (gymnasiet) that provides students with a broad technical foundation and prepares them for higher education in various fields, particularly science and technology. It emphasizes problem-solving, physics, and mathematics. Students develop knowledge in technology, physics, chemistry, and mathematics, focusing on technical processes and the relationships between them. The programme also covers communication and language skills. A fourth technical year is available, leading to a qualification as a "gymnasieingenjör" and enabling direct entry into the workforce after graduation.

Specializations (Inriktningar)

The Technology Programme offers several specializations:

  • Technology Science (Teknikvetenskap): This broad specialization focuses on technical challenges, programming, and problem-solving using technology. It covers the working methods of technology science, mathematical modeling, simulation, control, and regulation.
  • Civil Engineering and Environment (Samhällsbyggande och miljö): This specialization focuses on the built environment and environmental issues.
  • Production Technology (Produktionsteknik): This specialization focuses on manufacturing processes and business aspects.
  • Information and Media Technology (Informations- och medieteknik): This specialization focuses on information technology, media, and communication.
  • Design and Product Development (Design och produktutveckling): This specialization focuses on design, product development, and CAD software.

Courses

The Technology Programme includes courses in:

  • Core Subjects: Swedish, English, History, Physical Education and Health, Mathematics, etc.
  • Specialization Courses: Depending on the chosen specialization, students take courses such as Physics, Mechatronics, Production Knowledge, CAD, Programming, Web Development, etc.
  • Project Work: The programme involves project-based learning, requiring students to research, analyze, and present their findings.
  • Gymnasiearbete: A final project where students formulate a research question, plan, execute, and evaluate a larger project.

Career Prospects

The Technology Programme opens doors to a wide range of careers, including:

  • Engineering: Civil Engineer, 3D Graphic Designer, etc.
  • IT: Programmer, Web Developer, IT Architect, etc.
  • Science: Mathematician, Archaeologist, etc.
  • Other Technical Professions: Technician, etc.

Many graduates pursue higher education in science, technology, or even social sciences.
