Handicraft Program (Hantverksprogrammet)

Note: The Hantverksprogrammet will be discontinued starting autumn 2025. Students already enrolled will be able to complete their three years. A new program, Frisör- och stylistprogrammet (Hair and Stylist Program), will start in autumn 2025, and the Estetiska programmet (Aesthetic Program) will gain a new specialization in Modedesign (Fashion Design).

This program is suitable for students who enjoy practical, creative work and are interested in careers such as florist, hairdresser, carpenter, or textile designer. The program focuses on developing specific craft skills from concept to finished product. Subjects include entrepreneurship, craft knowledge, and tradition and development.

Students gain practical experience in various craft techniques and learn about the profession, craft traditions, and development opportunities. Internships provide real-world experience in the chosen field. Specialization is chosen in the ninth grade.

Program Structure

The Hantverksprogrammet covers the fundamentals of a chosen craft, from planning with sketches and drawings, selecting and handling tools, materials, and techniques, to executing and evaluating the work. Students develop their sense of color, form, and composition, and learn to use digital techniques relevant to their craft. Graduates can enter the workforce directly or pursue further education.

Specializations

  • Finsnickeri (Fine Carpentry): Focuses on manufacturing methods, materials, and the use of tools and machinery within the carpentry industry.
  • Florist: Covers pot plants and cut flowers, and the techniques for creating beautiful flower arrangements.
  • Frisör, barberare och hår- och makeupstylist (Hairdresser, Barber, and Hair and Makeup Stylist): Teaches various techniques, treatments, materials, and the use of tools and equipment in the hairdressing industry.

Creativity and Entrepreneurship

The program emphasizes creativity and entrepreneurship, as many craftspeople start their own businesses. Students learn about business management, from basic economics and marketing to building and maintaining a customer base. Communication and collaboration with customers, clients, and suppliers, as well as customer service, are also covered. The program encourages initiative, resourcefulness, independence, responsibility, and self-motivation.

Developing creativity is crucial for both entrepreneurs and employees. Personal style, technical skill, quality, and design are emphasized in all craft specializations. Students have opportunities to develop their creativity and work regularly within their chosen craft area.

Apprenticeship Option

The entire Hantverksprogrammet or parts of it can be completed as an apprenticeship (Lärling).
