Hotel and Tourism Program (Hotell- och turismprogrammet)

This vocational program prepares students for careers in the hospitality and tourism industry. It focuses on practical skills and knowledge relevant to various roles within the sector.

Program Overview:

The program covers a wide range of topics, including customer service, hospitality management, tourism, event planning, marketing, sales, entrepreneurship, languages, travel, and destination knowledge. Students also learn about sustainable tourism practices and relevant laws and regulations. The program emphasizes practical training and includes a mandatory internship component (APL) of at least 15 weeks.

Program Structure:

The program consists of core subjects, program-specific subjects, and an in-depth specialization component.

  • Core Subjects (Gymnasiegemensamma ämnen): These subjects provide a foundation in general knowledge and skills. They include English, History, Physical Education and Health, Mathematics, Natural Science, Religious Studies, Social Studies, and Swedish.
  • Program-Specific Subjects (Programgemensamma ämnen): These subjects focus on the specific knowledge and skills required for the hospitality and tourism industry. They include:
      • The Visiting Industry (Besöksnäringen)
      • Entrepreneurship (Entreprenorskap)
      • Sustainable Tourism (Hållbar turism)
      • Lodging and Hospitality (Logi och värdskap)
      • Meetings and Events (Möten och event)
      • Travel and Destinations (Resor och destinationer)
  • In-depth Specialization (Programfördjupning): While the program doesn't have formal specializations, students can choose elective courses within the program to deepen their knowledge in specific areas of interest, such as tourism, events, conferences, or hotel management.

Career Prospects:

Graduates of the Hotel and Tourism Program can pursue a variety of careers in the hospitality and tourism industry, including:

  • Tourism-related professions (e.g., tour guide, tourism information officer)
  • Hotel and conference services (e.g., hotel receptionist, conference host)
  • Travel sales
  • Hotel management

The program also provides the opportunity to obtain a basic university entrance qualification, allowing graduates to pursue further studies at universities or vocational colleges.
