Handicraft Programme (Hantverksprogrammet)
This vocational programme within the Swedish upper secondary school system focuses on practical skills and creativity. It was discontinued in 2025, with specializations restructured into other programmes or offered as separate qualifications.
Specializations (Inriktningar)
The Handicraft Programme offered several specializations:
- Florist: Students learn to create floral arrangements for various occasions, including bouquets, decorations, and event-specific designs. The curriculum covers plant care, design principles, and business aspects like shop displays and entrepreneurship.
- Hairdressing (Frisör): This specialization focuses on hair care, cutting, coloring, styling, and various hair treatments. Students learn about the history and trends within the hairdressing profession.
- Cabinetmaking (Finsnickeri): This specialization trains students in woodworking techniques to create furniture and other wooden objects.
- Textile Design: This specialization focuses on textile crafts, design, and creation of textile products.
- Other Handicrafts (Övriga hantverk): This broad specialization encompasses various crafts like goldsmithing, glassblowing, and other specialized crafts.
General Structure
The Handicraft Programme was a three-year vocational program. It included core subjects like English, History, and Physical Education, in addition to specialization-specific courses.
Future of the Programme
As of July 1, 2025, the national Handicraft Programme no longer exists. Specializations like cabinetmaking, floristry, textile design, and other crafts may be offered as separate qualifications or integrated into other programs. |
