Swedish Gymnasieprogram - HVAC and Property Maintenance Programme (VVS- och fastighetsprogrammet)

This vocational program focuses on heating, ventilation, and sanitation (VVS) as well as property maintenance. It combines practical work and creative problem-solving with planning and execution of various tasks. The program prepares students for roles such as plumbers, pipefitters, property managers, and related professions.

Programme Overview

The HVAC and Property Maintenance Programme emphasizes both theoretical and practical training, often including apprenticeships. Students learn about developing and maintaining properties, including energy supply systems, water/sewage, heating, cooling, and ventilation. The curriculum covers installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of these systems. Sustainability and energy efficiency in buildings are also key components. Students develop skills in planning, execution, documentation, and quality assurance, as well as customer service and entrepreneurship. Workplace safety and health are also prioritized.

Specializations (Inriktningar)

The program offers four specializations:

  • Property (Fastighet): Focuses on the operation of technical systems within properties, such as heating and ventilation, including maintenance and troubleshooting. This specialization can lead to careers as property technicians.
  • Cooling and Heat Pump Technology (Kyl- och värmepumpsteknik): Covers the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of cooling and heating systems, including those used in ice rinks, refrigerators, freezers, and heat pumps. Graduates may pursue careers as refrigeration technicians.
  • Ventilation (Ventilationsteknik): Concentrates on the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of ventilation systems, preparing students for roles as ventilation technicians.
  • HVAC (VVS): Deals with the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of heating and sanitation systems. Career paths include VVS installers, industrial pipe fitters, insulation installers, and sprinkler fitters.

Practical Training and Further Education

  • Workplace Learning (Arbetsplatsförlagt lärande - APL): Students gain practical experience through at least 15 weeks of workplace learning, providing valuable experience and networking opportunities.
  • Apprenticeship Training (Lärlingsutbildning): Some schools offer apprenticeship training, allowing students to complete at least half of their education in a workplace setting.
  • Further Education: Graduates can pursue further education at vocational colleges (yrkeshögskola), folk high schools (folkhögskola), or universities after completing supplementary courses for university eligibility.
