Natural Resource Use Programme (Naturbruksprogrammet)

The Natural Resource Use Programme (Naturbruksprogrammet) is a vocational programme in Swedish upper secondary education (gymnasieskolan) focused on working with nature's resources. As of 2023, the programme also provides basic eligibility for higher education. The programme offers six specializations:

Specializations

Animal Care (Djurvård)

This specialization focuses on the origin, behavior, care, needs, and health of different animal species, as well as equipment and facilities. Students gain an understanding of the environment's impact on animal welfare.

Horse Care (Hästhållning)

This specialization focuses on the horse as a biological being, its behavior, and the interaction between horse and human.

Agriculture (Lantbruk)

This specialization provides knowledge about soil, water, plants, animals, economics, and technology within agriculture. Students learn about the significance of plants for food production, animal feed, and the environment.

Forestry (Skogsbruk)

This specialization focuses on the forest as a sustainable resource, emphasizing technical and biological knowledge. Students learn how to use and maintain forestry machinery and equipment.

Horticulture (Trädgård)

This specialization covers soil, plants, plant environments, and the role of gardens in society. Students gain biological, technical, and economic knowledge related to horticulture.

Nature Tourism (Naturturism)

This specialization focuses on managing natural resources, making them accessible to visitors, and guiding nature experiences.

Career Prospects

The Natural Resource Use Programme prepares students for a variety of careers related to animal care, agriculture, forestry, horticulture, and nature tourism. Graduates can work directly after upper secondary school or pursue further education at vocational colleges (yrkeshögskolan) or universities.
