Swedish Gymnasieskolan Curriculum - Biology (Biologi)

The Swedish Gymnasieskolan curriculum for Biology is undergoing a significant reform, known as Gy25, which will be implemented from July 1, 2025. This reform will replace the current course-based grading system with subject-based grading. The new ämnesplaner (subject curricula) are being published in stages throughout the academic year 2023-2024.

Key features of Gy25:

  • Subject-based grading: Instead of receiving grades for individual courses (e.g., Biology 1, Biology 2), students will receive a single grade for the entire subject of Biology.
  • Level-based structure: Subjects will be structured into levels rather than distinct courses. This allows for a more holistic and in-depth approach to learning.
  • Focus on deeper learning: The shift to subject-based grading aims to encourage deeper learning and understanding of the subject matter, as students will have more time to engage with the material before their final grade is determined.

While the specific details of the Biologi Gy25 ämnesplan are not yet publicly available, the following resources provide relevant information:

It is recommended to check these resources periodically for updates on the release of the official Biologi Gy25 ämnesplan. Additional information about the previous curriculum (Gy11) and commentary on the changes can also be found through these links.
