Swedish Gymnasieskolan Curriculum (Core Subjects)

Core subjects in the Swedish Gymnasieskolan (upper secondary school) are compulsory for all students, regardless of their chosen program. These subjects provide a foundation for further studies and lifelong learning.

Core Subjects:

  • Swedish/Swedish as a Second Language: Focuses on developing knowledge of the Swedish language, including reading, writing, and communication skills.
  • English: Develops proficiency in English language skills, including reading comprehension, writing, and oral communication.
  • Mathematics: Covers fundamental mathematical concepts and problem-solving skills.
  • Natural Sciences: Introduces scientific principles and methods, encompassing biology, physics, and chemistry. For students in the Natural Sciences and Technology programs, passing grades in biology, physics, and chemistry are required for higher education eligibility.
  • Social Studies: Explores social, political, and economic systems and concepts.
  • History: Examines historical events, trends, and their impact on society.
  • Religion: Studies different religions and worldviews, promoting understanding and critical thinking.
  • Physical Education and Health: Focuses on physical activity, health, and well-being.
